The Faces Behind Our Mission

Carlton

An orange tabby adopted in the Boston area as a senior cat, he lived with IBD and heart disease but remained steady and composed throughout his life.

He was not very active, but he carried clear presence in the home. The other cats respected his space and avoided crossing him.

Called Sir. Carlton, he had a calm, dignified nature.

He enjoyed being outdoors but stayed close to home, rarely going far. He moved slowly, but with purpose.

A quiet, respected companion. Rest in peace, Sir!

Katia

At just 8 pounds, she is the smallest in the house, but she holds her own with her roommates Oreo and Grayson, who respect her space.

She is very affectionate and knows how to get attention. She often drops to the floor, belly up, waiting to be petted, and will repeat it until she is noticed.

She is observant and follows routines closely, often found already settled in bed before anyone else arrives.

Small in size, strong in personality.

Kueth

She came from the ACC in New York about six years ago, just before COVID, on the euthanasia list and in need of a second chance.

She lives with asthma and kidney issues and is now cared for by Cori, our managing director of leappNINE.

Her daily routine is simple: eat, sleep, repeat. She spends most of her time in her favorite kitchen spot, quietly watching everything around her.

Calm and steady, she’s a reminder of why rescue matters.

Grayson

He first came from a feral colony, skinny and searching for food. After repeatedly visiting, we were able to trap him and bring him into our home.

He needed time to adjust, but settled in well with the other cats.

Now, after good care and plenty of meals, he’s filled out into a strong, built boy.

He follows us everywhere, loves couch time, belly rubs, and shows affection by licking us until we’re soaked.

From stray life to a calm, loving home, he’s fully adjusted and part of the family

Chip

Adopted from Oak Park, Illinois at five years old, this senior tabby is now 13. He was once reactive with other cats, but became calm and affectionate over time.

He spent four years with Josephine at the University of Missouri–Kansas City before settling in the Boston area.

Now he enjoys a quiet routine, especially belly rubs, and sleeps curled up in bed at night.

From difficult beginnings to a gentle companion, he has come a long way.

Oreo

He appeared in a feral colony, going door to door looking for food, and eventually this Tuxedo cat came to us for meals and temporary shelter. It quickly became clear he needed a permanent home, and we were able to provide it.

We’ve had him for three years, since he was about one year old.

Now he enjoys indoor life—watching squirrel videos, being held, and showing off his high jumps. At night, he climbs into bed and settles in close.

From survival to comfort, he’s come a long way.

Shelbi

She was a rescue dog who found her forever home after being abandoned by previous renters.

Welcomed into a loving family, she spent nearly 15 years as a loyal protector, companion, and beloved member of the household. Full of energy and personality, Shelbi watched over the kids, barked at anything near her rural home, and instinctively herded the family to the basement during storms.

Part Australian Shepherd, she even supervised snowplowing during harsh winters. She never missed the sound of the refrigerator opening, especially when cheese or carrots were involved.

Shelbi’s life is a lasting reminder of the love and joy rescue animals bring.
